Sea Changes
12th June 2019 - 14th June 2019
SS Explorer, moored at Leith, is Scotland’s first custom-built fisheries research vessel. Citadel Arts Group has collected memories of crew, officers, scientists and cook, to create a powerful play, ‘Sea Changes’ by Jim Brown (‘Whit aboot the Wimmen?’ ‘Malky’) directed by Mark Kydd (‘Dancing with Mrs Murphy’). Jim’s research uncovered stories of Explorer as spy ship listening in to Russian subs. She conducted important marine research indicating early signs of global warming. Jim uses humour and music to tell the story of this important vessel through the eyes of young Sean, fresh out of Aberdeen jail and unused to the sea.
