Visit the SS Explorer
12th June 2019
The SS Explorer, moored at Leith’s Edinburgh Dock, is Scotland’s first custom-built fisheries research vessel. Twice saved from demolition, she is currently being restored by the Explorer Preservation Society. Members of the society will show groups round the ship and recount her fascinating story: the cutting-edge marine research carried out aboard uncovered early evidence of global warming; she was a spy ship listening in on Russian submarines. A book of memories of those who worked on the Explorer has been compiled by Citadel Arts Group. Audiences from Citadel’s play, ‘Sea Changes’ will enjoy visiting the ship that inspired the show.
